Maurice White will always be forever wonderful in my heart. A master composer, musician, songwriter, the industry and the world has lost a piece of genius the God has touch to bring a gift of music to the world. I will miss you my friend but your music will live in my heart forever.
I was born in 1971, however as a child I remember hearing Earth Wind & Fire on the radio and being captivated by the sound! 45 years later your message still makes my heart soar and puts a smile on my face!! Thank you Maurice, for bringing so much joy to the world with your gift! Long live the Mighty Elements!!
My first concert at the Fabulous Forum… will never forget you!! And have always tried to see when in town… I will never stop listening to EWF my favorite and you…. Your with the Gods now…
Another day in February that has occurred that the “Music Died”. R.I.P. Maurice White and ALL E.W.F. members your music lives on; and I am very Thankful to you all
Maurice…as a kid growing up outside Portland Oregon in the late 70’s your music was my fuel when times were both good and bad. Endless nights listening to the entire Head to the Sky album on headphones filled me with so much hope. Before football games my song of inspiration was always Zanzibar! Your loss has moved me in ways I did not see coming as your music is so tied to my youth and life. Thank you for your music and love. I will always carry you with me on my journey. Much love…RIP brother!
Maurice White was a bad mutha, there were two people who influenced my taste in music,he was one ,the other Frankie Crocker.
I first saw EWF on a tv show on public television hosted by Ellis Hazlip called Soul.
These guys were different I believe Jessica Cleaves was the female vocalist in the group but it could have been Sherry Scott.
Back then they had songs like Remember The Children, Mom and Power. The Album was called Last Days And Time
Next time I heard from them was when the cut Evil came out,Keep your Head to the Sky was the album. Then Open our Eyes with Mighty Mighty, Kalimba Story and the title cut.
Once That’s The Way of The World came out they were no longer a secret.
I saw EWF at least 12 times 2 times a year once at at Madison Square Garden and the other time at the Nassau Coliseum.I was a kid but I always always made sure I had money to see them when they came to New York, Seeing them was an event,we dressed up and they put on the best show ever musically and visually and it was so spiritual. Maurice’s voice was and still is unmatched and unforgettable.
You always couldn’t wait to get the new Earth Wind and Fire album. You had to find the next hit on it before the radio played it This went on for years
Forgot to throw in Maurice working with Ramsey Lewis,Jennifer Holiday, the Emotions and Denice Williams.
Once I heard that Maurice was not well I always hoped he would go on tour one last time so that we, the fans could show him how much we loved him and his music and concept. But I guess he wasn’t able to
I hope he and his family and the group sees the out pouring of love and respect this sad news has garnered.
Maurice White we salute you for your vision and music.Deepest condolences to your wife and children (you did a great job keeping their and your privacy) and other family members and of course the best band imo ever Earth Wind and Fire.Thank you so much!
Your music brings me deep, deep JOY, cutting right to the heart. It is alive as if fully in the present every time I hear it. I’m so happy to have shared time on earth with you.
THAT OLD BUSH WILL KEEP ON BURNING. THANK YOU FOR SHINNING THE LIGHT THAT GAVE ME GUIDANCE IN MY DARKEST DAYS WHICH LEAD ME TO MY HIGHER SELF THE DEEPER MEANINGS THAT WERE HIDDEN WITH IN THE MUSIC THAT HELP TO NOURISH THE SEED OF A NEOPHYTE WHO BECAME AN INITIATE ON HIS WAY TO BECOMING AN ADAPT. AS YOU SOAR TO THE HIGHER PLANE I THANK YOU AND MY THE UNIVERSE REWARD YOU FOR ALL THE GOOD YOU BROUGHT TO THIS PLANE. MUCH LOVE TO YOUR FAMILY THE BAND AND THE SECRET BROTHER HOOD. THE BOOKS YOU LEAD ME TO I WILL ALWAYS HOLD DEAR. YOU WERE A GREAT TEACHER. P.S. IT WAS ABOUT MORE THAN MUSIC!!!!!!
Maurice was part of us whole Ewf has touch my life for the frist time in 1985 i was 5 and stil remember the frist touch of Ewf just wat i want to say its thax so much to share with us your heart rip god bless all Ewf. In this havy time Lord has thaken the best the light. Maurice rest in peace
Maurice White I can never say thank you enough sir, for you, your music and sense of style in which it was delivered to the world inspired me so much I was able to overcome depression, sadness and grief with happiness, hope, peace and success. Both you and your art in music was truly sent directly from god, were you now sit in peace.
God bless you, your family and friends, rest in peace.
Maurice will forever be in the Earth, the Wind and the Fire. His music and the spirit that came through it brought love and light into a world that too often allows the darkness to over take it. Maurice taught me to not just listen to the music but to hear and understand the intricacies of the message and composition. He means LOVE, PEACE, and HOPE and forever will be in our presence. Thank you for orchestrating the soundtrack of my life. Dance the Eternal Dance in Heaven Maestro
Since 1975, when I first bought my first record, Earth, Wind and Fire has been the soundtrack of my life, and I live far away from where you come from. Maurice white has been without a doubt something very special in music, others musicians may get the fame because of the media, but Maurice was simply the music. Hapiness and hope, that is what he delivered
I was introduced to Earth, Wind and Fire as an aspiring musician at the age of 17. Some 36 years ago. Since that time, the superior creativity, talent and performance made EWF the only group I have really followed. Nothing else was needed to feed me musically, I had it all right there.
I studied it all, the vocal performances, the orchestra arrangements…a French Horn in R&B music?…the Phoenix Horns, Larry graham, Larry Dunn, Skip Scarborough…..this is what happens what I start talking about Maurice White and Earth, Wind & Fire.
The whole group, all the musicians were masters of their craft.
As a young teen, I was still impressionable. Fortunately, I delved all the way in to the lyric content of each EWF song. I was not that much into church at that time, so I am grateful and thankful for the goodhearted and righteous path the words of the songs led me on…..”In The Stone”.,..what more do I have to say…”Burnin Bush”….”That’s The Way of the Word”…..I mean, I can go on for days. Every song was a master piece.
Maurice’s Earth, Wind and Fire is the corner stone of R&B. No other group has successfully merged Gospel and biblical based lyrics in R&B groves and sell the millions of records as EWF, while holding true to its core beliefs. No other group has successfully, proudly and unapologetically brought the African rhythms and culture in to mainstream music and in their performances.
No one else, but Maurice White and Earth, Wind and Fire freed music groups from having to be a Robot Group. In their early days, they endured the insults, bad reviews and rejections so we could all be free of that.
Thank you for the genius of Maurice White, a true Visionary, and Legacy of Earth, Wind and Fire.
YOU HAD YOUR BASIS IN THE INFINITE INVISIBLE AND APPEARED VISIBLY AND TANGIBLY AS MAURICE WHITE. YOU APPEARED IN THE BODY; FUNCTIONED THROUGH THE BODY; WAS SEEN IN THE WORLD AS THE BODY, BUT YET YOU WERE NOT SEEN. YOUR ENTIRE MESSAGE AND MISSION TAUGHT HUMANITY, THAT AS CHILDREN, WE ARE ONE WITH OUR CREATOR; AND EACH OF US IS GOVERENED BY THE ACTIVITY OF TRUTH THAT LIES WITHIN OUR CONSCIOUSNESS. ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE PASSED FROM SIGHT OF OUR FINITE SENSES, YOU ARE ALIVE! THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING HUMANITY TO SEE “THAT THE LIGHT IS HE, SHINING ON YOU AND ME”. UNTIL WE JOIN YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE, WHEN OUR SPIRITS WILL BE ONE, ALWAYS…IN LOVE.
Earth, Wind & Fire – pretty much synonymous with Maurice White – has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I remember being in my bedroom with one of my bandmates from a middle school band, listening to Serpentine Fire and saying . . . why cant we make music like this?
Maurice White was an excellent singer, drummer, and frontman, but his true genius was in songwriting. I’ve been a part of the music industry (as in, working for signed artists/studios/producers) for about 11 years and I cant tell you how many times I’ve overheard something like this: “That’s too complicated. If it has more chords than I IV and V the radio wont play it and the people wont buy it.” And occasionally an artist or producer would go against the grain and put out something more complex, and invariably it would not have widespread appeal. People like music they can relate to, and most people cant relate to complex chord changes, runs, time signatures, lyrics, etc.
Except somehow, two songwriters – Stevie Wonder and Maurice White – have managed for decades to do the impossible: create music that is as complex as it is possible for music to be, yet relatable to EVERYONE. Not limited to culture, age, or era. Maurice’s songs are still beloved by young people today. My wife and I saw Earth Wind & Fire live in Chicago this summer and the crowd defied all stereotypes (not to mention it was one of the best shows we’ve ever been to, the other being Stevie).
When I listen to Earth Wind & Fire, I think about, what kind of God given genius does it take to create these songs? And will we ever see the likes of that again? That is the biggest loss of today.
Personally, I cant pick my favorite EWF song. That would be like picking your favorite kid. My wife’s is Serpentine Fire.
Thank you for all the best music ever and the voice for EWF.
You were my past, my youth, my present and you will always
my future.Fore ever in my heart.
Love from Holland and strenght to all the family White and
the entire band.
You know when they say whatever you want in this world you can achieve; well I was in college in 1975…, smart guy on my way to becoming a doctor, when I pondered what I wanted to be in this life. After searching my soul I came up with a horn player in EWF. I bought a used (and leaky) alto sax in Baltimo-yo, but could never get the same note out of it after forty five minutes of practice each day. My target song was the licks on happy feelings and I did manage to get those five notes down along with some awesome dance moves; needless to say, I didn’t join the band, I just wanted to share this lovely memory on this very sad day that the music meant that much too me! Thank you Maurice. RIP
As a 13 year old walking past my local general store in londons Harrow district in 1983-84 I see a cassette in the window entitled the best of Earth wnd and fire vol 1.every day I saw that tape on the shop window. I decided to purchase it out of curiosity wih what little pocket money I had some £3.99 back then. I get home and it on I never stopped playing it. As soon as I started earning some proper money summer holidays I went to record fairs and spent all my wages by the time I was 18/19 I had every Earth wond and fire album there ever was upto 1988. The love has never gone and it never will. I had the plensure of witnessing the band in 1990 whilst Maurice was still performing
I and my family grow up on /with “E.W.&F, and THE HIGHER PLACE MINISTRY FAMILY EXTEND THE DEEPEST AND MOST HEARTFELT CONDOLENCE TO THE FAMILY OF MAURICE WHITE, EARTH,WIND & FIRE, AND THE MUSIC WORLD.
The world grives!!
You are truly a “SHINING LIGHT”
R.I.P. Maurice ..
Mentre scrivo questo pensiero sto pensando proprio a In the stone e a Boogie Wonderland..
Resterai sempre il migliore, Maurice.
Maurice, you were so much more than just a great musician and singer (that voice…oh, that voice) It was the uniqueness of your music that I loved so much and the positive messages always helped to brighten my day. I’m so glad I got to see you perform way back in 1979. RIP Maurice; you’ll forever be a shining star!
Proprio oggi ascoltavo e rileggevo i testi di Take it to the sky e Turn it in to something good, dall’album Faces, album sottovalutato ma bellissimo secondo me.
R.I.P Maurice
With your disappearance is gone a piece of my adolescence. I found your music when i was 14 in 1978, on a Saturday afternoon at a party at the home of a classmate of mine. Since then the music of the EWF has always been with me, and accompanied me in every moment of my life, both good times that less beautiful. How many times I heard Devotion when I was down and how many times I danced and sang Let’s Groove or September when I was in a good mood. But the best thing you have left us, as well as a unique and inimitable sound, are the beautiful lyrics of many songs, lyrics full of spirituality, universal love, positive messages, which encourage us to trust in ourselves, in our dreams , in our objectives. Just today I listened and re-read the lyrics of Take it to the sky and Turn it in to something good, from the album Faces, album underrated at time, but beautiful in my opinion. Just these two songs express much what was your essence, your soul. I cried a little bit but at the same time hear and read these lyrics gave me so much energy. I have only one regret, never being able to see you live on the stage, the only time I saw the EWF live was in Taormina in 1997, and you unfortunately you were already retired. But it was still the best concert of my life.
Thank you for all the emotions you gave me and continues to give me when I listen to your voice and your music. R.I.P Maurice
“Absent from the Body…Present with the Lord”
An inspiration for us all (including the entire EWF family) , especially for those who see beyond the apparent and believe in the light of the future.
I guess when someone with the talent and vision of Maurice White starts a music project such as EWF, he can never imagine the positive revolution that will be created. Thank you and the rest of the band for so many years of wonderful moments. Your music not only changed paradigms, but, more importantly, made our life happy and we are deeply grateful for that. We have been missing you and we will miss you always.
MAURICE…YOU HAD MY HEART FROM THE MOMENT YOUR MUSIC BEGAN…EVERY SONG HAS A SPECIAL MEANING IN MY LIFE…THE 70’S WERE SUCH HAPPY DAYS FOR ME….I WAS STUDYING CLASSICAL BALLET AND MODERN DANECE. ONE TIME FOR A PRACTICE SESSION I ASK MY INSTRUCTOR IF I COULD PLEASE, PLEASE BRING IN MY EARTH, WIND & FIRE ALBUM FOR A WARM-UP. BY THE END OF THE SESSION, EVERYONE, EVEN THE INSTRUCTOR WAS ROCKING ALL OVER THE STUDIO. SO WHENEVER I THINK OF YOU, MAURICE…MY EYES WILL FILL WITH TEARS OF HAPPINESS OF THE VERY SPECIAL DAYS FOR THE LAST 40 YEARS DANCING WITH YOU. LOVE YOU MORE THAN WORDS COULD EVER BEGIN TO DESCRIBE…I WILL SEE YOU IN HEAVEN AND WE WILL DANCE TO SEPTEMBER TOGETHER. WHEN MY SON MARRIED ON THE 21ST OF SEPTEMBER 2013, HE STARTED THE RECEPTION WITH SEPTEMBER…HE WASN’T EVEN BORN IN 1978 WHEN YOU RELEASED THAT SONG…BUT HIS MOTHER DANCED ALL THE HOUSE FROM THAT YEAR ON….GOD BLESS YOU…AND KEEP IN HIS HEAVEN ROCK BAND.
We lost a wonderful musican and songwriter. You have given your songs so much passion, love and soul. First time I have seen you with EWF in in the beginning 80´s in Frankfurt and after, at several other places. All songs inspired my live. Helped me through the depths and made the hights brighter. Thank you for that, Maurice. God bless you.
Maurice

…”Every man has a place
In his heart there’s a space
And the world can’t erase his fantasies
Take a ride in the sky
On our ship, fantasize
All your dreams will come true right away”…
I grew up on Eart Wind and Fire. My husband and I fell in love with each other and Earth Wind and Fire. Maurice made me think about myself and the world around me. My children often say “you could always tell what kind of day it was going to be. If Daddy was playing Earth Wind and Fire, that meant you could go outside or to the movies or hang out. If something else was playing you could forget it!” We love Eart Wind and Fire and we love Maurice white. May he have peace with GOD. Thank you Maurice for teaching me how to love myself and those around me and for giving me a glimpse of JESUS CHRIST living inside you. I’m keeping my head to the sky!
Maurice and his gang made life worth living with their positive vibe, energy and spirit. I have a special place in my heart for him and for ” September”- the world’s most uplifting, feel good song.
“I find romance when I start to dance” and I start to dance whenever i listen EW&F. Thank you Maurice for the wonderful messages to live the life with love and peace of mind. Ci mancherai.
Words cannot express the gratitude I have for the impact of Maurice White’s music legacy on my soul. EWF created the music of my life. Music I had not heaerd before and no one has come close ever since to EWF’s body of work. Spiritual, truthful, harmonious fluid music that uplifts me everytime I hear it. You are the band I’ve seen the most in my lifetime. You transport me to a place of beauty, peace, light and love. Thank you so much.
No matter what time of day, the music of EWF always got me dancing. Loved watching you perform – so much natural rhythm. Your will be sorely missed but know that your music legacy will live on into eternity! RIP.
Maurice White thank you May the angels protect you in heaven and thank you God to Have Create a genius, Amen.
Thank you, Maurice for the wonderful sonic journeys you and the Mighty Elements took me on. From the first sound of the horns on “That’s the way of the world” to the swirling vocals of you and Phillip you had me hooked. I will forever be greatful for all the memories I have attached to your songs.. The world has truly lost a great one.
Words cannot begin to describe the feeling of loss with the passing of Maurice White. His music always stirred up deep emotions and it will continue to do so as it was a huge part of my growing up. His music is timeless. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

What can I say………. it’s so very sad. Thank you Maurice for the music , the passion and the love.
Yes, you’re right.
Your music has been my life soundtrack.
I will keep my head to the sky, hoping to find your shining star.
