Maurice White and EWF brought so much infectious joy to those of us lucky enough to bask in the reflected light of his Shining Star. We wore out the EWF records at my house in the mid-late 70s and never stopped cranking up an EWF song whenever or wherever we heard it. A simple thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us.
The music of my childhood, adolescence and still now. Me and my kids have danced to his music until now. I’ve seen them live so many times. And they kept on going. But without Maurice White the great EW&F aren’t what they were back then. He gave the world so much joy and happiness with his music and performance. A great and very influencial musical genius has left us. I miss him so much. He meant a lot to me.
Caro Maurice,
today i shed a single tear… of sorrow.. of pain. it made a splash upon my soul, that formed a puddle the grew and grew and flooded my very being with grief. a single tear that did so much as a single being that meant so much to oh so many. but very shortly my feelings of loss and remorse were soon engulfed in light and i smiled. i remembered the lessons you taught me, the many soulful and meaningful words that you spoke to me in my private moments, most personal moments as well as my most public moments. The way you made me dance, made me sing at the top of my lungs, and strive to be the best, the very best me i can be. the same words you spoke to the world to encourage us all to make this plane of existance a better place, not just for us but for each other. Thank you my brother. I won’t say good bye for i, we have only been deprived of your physical presence for you my brother shall forever be with us. take your journey my friend. rest assured you have left us inspired to make a better day.
It’s difficult to find words to express all the emotion that I feel about such a great loss. I am so thankful for Maurice White and his music. He and the band we such an important part of my life during happy and difficult times and helped me to get through difficult times. He was truly a genious. I am so thankful for the gift he left and that I have been able to share it with my children and will be able to share it with my grandson. What a true blessing his life and gift is to us.
My thoughts and prayers to the White family and all the members of the EWF family at the news of the loss of Maurice. Your music has always been an uplifting joy from the first song to the present. You may be gone physically but you will always be with all who love you in our hearts whether we knew you personly or were fans like myself who never had the pleasure to meet you. RIP Maurice
Memories of the first time I consciously heard EWF; walking into a party when I lived overseas (1978) and hearing some of the funkiest grooves and silky horn lines and thinking WTF is this?! OMG!! Chills still run through me when I hear EWF. Yiow!
some of my best memories growing up were shared with Maurice and EW&F. my heart cries for our loss but sings with the memory or the wonderful art you gave the world!!
all the divine power you receive her eternal joy my amigotu will live music in me for the rest of my days I will always love you.
much of what I am today is because of earth wind and fire .
rest in peace my friend for ever……
I first discovered the music and lyrics of Earth Wind & Fire sitting on the hardwood floor, in front of the stereo during my childhood. As I read the lyrics of “Devotion” on the sleeve of my mom’s album as a ten year old, I felt a connection with
their music that has remained throughout my life. I didn’t realize it back then, but the connection was spiritual. Thank you Maurice White for sharing your beautiful, GOD given gifts with the world and for creating one of the most dynamic bands in existence.Thank you for providing the background music of my life, your musical works are eternal ,rest in peace.
Brother Maurice, you wrote the song that I lived my life by. Words cannot express the gratitude that I have for you and your family of musician. The greatest of all time. This picture of you walking towards the pyramids… Wow. All I can say is that you are loved and will missed.
In may,1997,me and my brother,Albert went to Las Vegas for vacation. We took my aunt Betty, also.Me and my brother was going to the EWF concert at Careers Palace. She was to gambling while she was waits for us, but suddenly she ask it was O.k. to go with us. We told was o.I.. So we got her tickets. It’s was the best time we ever have. It’s was fun watch her dance. Thanks you for the nudie and the memories. God Bless You all.
What a gift we were all given in Maurice. I am so sad that I will not see him perform again but so thankful that his music and spirit lives on. Rest in peace.
Thank you for the message of love and positivity! I know EWF will carry your message on for years to come. You are definitely the epitome of a
Shining Star. I know you are welcomed with open arms. My this part of journey be even better than when you graced us with presence. Rest well.
Maurice means happiness and joy to me. His music is an essential part of me, of my life , and for that I thank him forever. He´s always been a shining star that now moved up to the sky and is waiting for us playing the kalimba.
I was in high school and college in the 70s to early 80s. I remember vividly getting out of school, getting in my car and cranking up EW&F while driving across Mulholland Drive. Not to mention the great dance parties we threw moving to that incredible music. No wonder I still stop and listen anytime I hear EW&F on my radio. Just great memories!! Thank you for those wonderful times in my life!!
… i still remember, it was at the dancing school’s discoparty in 1979 when the the DJ played A.T.L.H.G. – IT HIT ME LIKE A STONE. I asked the DJ who’s the singer ..? His answer granted me the soundtrack of my life and lifetime – The MOST outstanding musical experience one possibly can get, conceive, feel, enjoy, anticipate, cherish, appreciate, etc, – Maurice White was my musical hero ! Ruhe in Frieden. Pe@ce !
I was lucky to be alive in the same frame as this man … We loved his exuberant music so very much, of course. Such an ecstatic and extravagant sound !
But even more, Maurice was the embodiment of the brotherhood of all people, and a herald that one day THIS world just might transition to grace – if enough of us “get the message loud and clear”
“another heaven and another earth must pass before such a one can be again” – Wlilliam Beebe
I’m just listening to” Shining Star”… well sure you’re one of them, we’re all one !
Thank you so much for all these years of powerful music that gave to my life
so much energy, magic and a lot of inspiration !
May your soul have a wonderful journey.
I once heard Verdine say in an interview, “music is recorded history”. Maurice White and EWF had a profound affect on my life and anyone growing up in the 1970’s. My favorite band of all time and although I’m sure he heard it from fans thousands of times, I regret that I never got to meet you Maurice, so I could tell you personally just how much your music impacted my life. May God Bless the White family, his bandmates, and EWF fans everywhere.
The first time I heard EWF I had no idea who it was. the sound I heard in this music changed my life. I suddenly wanted to be a musician. I had to be a part of the gift that God gave Maurice White. I first played the piano then the trumpet then the drums. I could not get enough of it I was self taught and learned most of my chops playing along with all the EWF ep’s. so though most would consider me self taught I consider myself taught by Maurice, and Verdine as I have been playing the bass guitar soon after I started being a student of their music. I along with the rest of the EWF/ Maurice following will remember him / and them as a part of our lives. God Bless all who are his loved ones and family and to those of us who will miss him and the beautiful music he might have created.
I’ve been a fan of the band since my childhood in the early 70’s and I cannot say how much it pains me to hear of Maurice’s passing. So many songs and so many lyrics that touch our hearts and spirits. The music of Earth, Wind & Fire always had that special and unique quality to transcend people, space, time and souls. What gives your music so much more meaning to me now is that even my son grew up to be a fan of Maurice and the band; that alone speak volumes when it comes to measure your huge success in a time when there is such a difference in musical tastes between younger and older generations. Eternal peace to you Maurice and may God be your guide throughout the ultimate journey. Thank you Maurice and to all members of Earth Wind & Fire, past and present, for the music, the words, the memories; thank you most of all for “sharing the spice of life”. There will never be anyone like Maurice, never…
Maurice was a pure musical genius. Maurice, we all know you will inspire countless generations and your name will be synonymous with integrity. May the light shine on you, forever, brother. Amen
Maurice White Thank you for the gifts you presented to this world. the sense of unity among those who were open to find joy, and happiness through your musical experiences. Through your talent a brotherhood and sisterhood has been established and will remain strong in our hearts. It’s in this community I trust many will find comfort, as your music lives on. so know my friends the lyrics of what Maurice White meant to me is summed up in a single line from the song Blood brothers. “The bond we made, never will break”

SOME OF YOUR SONGS
Some of your songs, they raised my mind
to cloudless skies of peace and pride
evolving rainbow colored faith
to guide my love on truthful ways
Your songs, they led this heart of mine
to meadows waving drewdrops shine
to keep alive my trust and hopes
in magical caleidoscopes
Between those songs, but all around,
like shining sparks, Kalimba sounds.
Some of your songs, they took my soul
to valleys bathed in sunrise gold
where dreams may root and grow like trees
encircled by your melodies
Your songs, they made my body dance
through groovy boogie wonderlands
spellbound by thousand harmonies
ruled by the voice of JamboReese
Once all your songs will meet as one
to send a spark to Egypt´ s sun
REese´s light keeps shining, warm and true
Inside your songs, inside of you.
I’m just listening to” Shining Star”… well sure you’re one of them, we’re all one !

la nostra vita non sarà mai più la stessa da quando tu hai solcato le nostre anime, ci hai accompagnato per 40 anni della nostra vita musicale.. ed hai cambiato il nostro modo di essere..
Please Maurice.. come back… please…
