Sadly I find that Maurice has left us earlier this year. RIP for a while and come back to us through the Music Maurice, always be in our Hearts.

NO WORDS I CAN DESCRIBE WHAT MAURICE IMPACTED ON ME AS A 16 YEAR OLD MUSICIAN FROM LOS ANGELES………….42 YEARS STILL IMPACTING ME ON EVERYTHING…………………SUPADUPABASSIST J
EWF’s music was the soundtrack of my youth. Such wonderful music. I was so fortunate to have seen them several times with Maurice still fronting the band. Now I have children and they’re such huge fans of the greatest band ever.
I’ll miss Maurice but his music will live on forever
What can I say — I grew up in a middle class (white) family in Los Angeles but my mother was a child of the 60’s (I was born in ’76). She introduced me to her idols – Earth, Wind and Fire, Jimi Hendrix, Coltrane, Ray Charles, and on an on. She was from Detroit and picked up a love of music across the range. I did as well. I remember dancing with my mom to September, Boogie Wonderland and others as a young boy. As a boy I loved our dance parties (my mom and I tearing up the rug). She taught me that love of music was paramount and that I should always and forever ignore anyone who ever spoke racist words in our house, to admonish them and bring them to an understanding that we are all gods children. In once instance words were exchanged when my friend parents came over in second grade to our dance party — I’ll never forget the words thrown at my mother for introducing the other kids son to (‘that type of music’). I’ve toned that down given that I don’t ever use the language that was spoken that day. It opened my eyes and let me know my mother was simply trying to make me a better man – to let me know that it was ok and my right to listen to, dance to and befriend everyone. I graduated to rap, gospel, hard rock, grunge, and new music today. We are all human beings and the greatest gift my mother (god rest her soul) and Maurice (god rest his soul) gave to me was a love of dancing and music that I now pass on to my children. Music can change the world – Maurice you changed mine and I know you and my mom are up in heaven dancing to a pure sound and I hope we can all get together for the ultimate dance party when I arrive. I miss my mom and you a ton and I know I’ll see you on the other side. Love and respect and Maurice’s family should know his music bound my mother and I together in a way that can never ever be undone. — Dan Foley
I will never forget Maurice White. The music he made with Earth, Wind, and Fire is the soundtrack of my life. From college days, even as I traveled abroad as a student I always carried the music.
When they performed at the Hollywood Bowl a friend of mine introduced us, along with Phillip Bailey.
The music was awe inspiring, with lyrics to uplift the soul. It’s hard to believe your gone.
Thank you, forever, for bringing the Kalimba, and the magical, mystical wonderful sounds of Earth, Wind, and Fire.
Love you always, my musical brother
I miss you Maurice…you’re a funny and lovely man ! I think that you loved the life. I feld this when listened your videos and music. Thank you for this !!!
EWF was the music of my youth. I bought every album they produced but unfortunately was only able to see them in concert once when I was 18 (I grew up in western Canada and they didn’t tour up here – I had to drive 16 hours to Salt Lake to see them). In this short tribute, I would like to celebrate his life and the lives of all who have formed part of EWF over the years.
One of the truest tests of a life well lived is whether the world is a better place because of your life on it. My testimony here and the others above confirm the incredibly positive impact that EWF – under Maurice’s leadership – had on the lives of so many. I’m listening to “I’ll Write a Song for You” as I type this, and it is only the latest example of how listening to EWF inspires me to more positive thoughts and actions. Never fails.
Thank you EWF for all you have given to me and others over the past several decades.
Maurice, I know you are helping and inspiring others where you are now just like you did when you were among us.
Where does one begin to explain Maurice White? Although I never met him, I feel he touched my soul with his music. I feel EWF was meant to be be just what they are to each and everyone of us. THE BEST BAND EVER! From there Love Ballads to their chart topping catalog of Mega Hits, each one of us has been touched by EWF! Everyone has a story of how this unparallelled band has been the music of millions of hearts and lives! EWF has been the catalog of my life. Maurice was so many different things to different people. So many millions know the words to each and every song, Maurice, Philip,Verdine, Ralph and all the bandmates have a great love and respect for all their fans, and in turn their fans have always been devoted to their music and loved each and everyone of them. I have adored, admired and have been unequivocally devoted to this incredible music and band. Maurice White broke down barriers with a simple note. We are all brought to our feet the second we hear “Thats the Way of the World.” His song writing was intelligent, emotional, political, imaginative, powerful, uplifting, religious, and filled with words of love. No,I may never have met him but I have heard his message of love and unity and respect for all loud and clear. Maurice embraced the WORLD and the World took notice and embraced Maurice and EWF forever! Thank You Maurice White for Choosing your Brother Verdine and your other Brothers Philip Bailey, and Ralph Johnson. My heart is filled with nothing but Gratitude that God brought you and the band into my life. My sincerest condolences to your immediate family, Verdine, Philip, Ralph and all their families. May i leave you with this: “The light is he shining on you and me” ….”and our spirits oooh they will be one”
EWF has been my favorite all time musical group for over 40 years. If I live to 100 or beyond, it will still be my go to music for comfort, for pleasure, for cleaning my house, for exercising, you get the picture. The timeless quality of songs, the rhythm, the soulful bluesy sound, the horn section, all are so seductive to me. The guy above said it made him proud to be black. It made me want to be black lol! Thank you, Maurice and EWF, for giving the world your beautiful music!! I’m a music teacher and I play EWF for my students frequently! As I said, it’s timeless!!! RIP Maurice! I’m sure heaven is grooving to Fantady, Boogie Wonderland, September, Got to get you into my life,! That’s the way of the world!!!
De lekkerste swing en groove Geniet nog dagelijd van deze heerlijke muziek. November ad organiseren wij van de Rotary een benefiet disco avond met EWF . Heerlijk . Thanks
I came across Earth, Wind & Fire as a teenager in the 80s. Starting with September, Boogie Wonderland, I dove into the earlier records of the band. At some point, I listened to Head to the Sky, and I was hooked. EWF has been with me ever since. In those endless car trips with my parent in Spain, while doing my math exercises to pass the exams, during my business travelling….EWF filled with life moments that were meant to be dull and boring. Your music will always go with me, wherever I go. Mil gracias por todo, Mauricio. Te debo mucho.
I have loved this group since I heard “Keep Your Head to the Sky.” I must have been about 14 at the time. I was so impressed with the way their voices harmonized. I was immediately a fan. I think i had an obsession with the group. They came to a nearby city in 1975 and I had to be there. The show for me was absolutely magnificent. A guy from my high school that I had a big crush on was also a huge fan. He asked me to dance and we’ve been together since that night. We got married 5 years later. Every song holds a wonderful memory for me. I listened to them constantly. I have dating memories, college memories, marriage, the birth of our children. I still love you EWF. Maurice you are surely missed. You were a musical giant among men.
mr maestro Maurice White and EWF .You are everything for me.Your music is everything for me,everyday, every hour, evry second, every moment.Thank you for your music which gave and give me many, many joy,big sense of my life. You are world treasure.Thank you very much.God bless you.I love you.Maurice, your image is at my flat and below burn candles for you.For ever with you.Your greatest fan Frank from Slovakia. On a golden sky you my sparkle flying high….I love yu.
Listening to Earth Wind and Fire in my teens was the beginning of my spiritual awakening. Thank you for embarking on this journey with me. Maurice your voice will always live on through the music you made. You may be gone from this Earth but you will live on in my heart forever. Saw EWF in London last week and it was magical. Missed you Maurice but you were there doing your thing in heaven. One day I will meet my fave band and life will be complete. X
I’ve been a huge fan for years. It’s funny how the other day the song “side by side” was being played at a birthday party. When I heard Maurice’s voice, I literally stopped and added the song to my playlist immediately. I’ve listened to that song for the past two days CONSISTENTLY. Maurice White had wonderful leadership skils. He lead EWF and Verdine, Phillip, and Ralph keep Maurice’s spirit alive through music and touring.
The music Maurice helped bring to the world influenced my youth nearly 30 years later. That music was played so frequently and enjoyed so much by my family that I grew to feel like you guys were family. It was a very painful day when I found out of his passing, I had felt like a very good friend of mine passed away that day. I am very thankful to have grown up with music like yours, and I’m sure many others are thankful as well. Your positive influence will be felt for many many many years and I truly appreciate the positive influence y’all gave to the world. Thank you guys.
Let me start by saying that whenever I can, I go see these Brothers! First time was in 1977 in Madison Sq Garden/NYC! I got Maurice’s autograph and briefly spoke to him in 1990 or 1991, when the group put on a 2 day FREE concert on Kadena AFB Okinawa Japan, I was serving in the Marine Corps on Camp Foster Traffic Management Office. He and one of his tour/production managers, were walking back from Gate 2 street after buying collectibles. I personally benefited from being inspired by their music, and the kalimba is a wonderful African instrument. To this day, I still proudly carry his signature around in my wallet. I’m going on 61, and I still get excited about this music. Maurice, well done my brother, rest on eternally. You did the damn thing!!!
Every time I hear September, it always makes me feel like dancing on the spot. Puts everyone else in a good mood too. Thank you, forever, for the magic, and many years to come.
Maurice was my hero & inspiration since I was a little girl. What a magnificent spirit he was and remains to be. I can’t believe it will be 3 years since he went to a higher place. Fly high, music master <3
Maurice White shaped my musical taste and appreciation, by proving that perfection in production, arranging, writing, vocals and sophistication can be attained. I was 14 in 1976 when i discovered EW&F, and in 79 when I Am came out i first heard Cant Let Go on an American Airlines flight to LA, and it blew my mind! I was and have been a Maurice fan and devotee ever since! If the word genius is applied to anyone in music, Mautice White is on that list! Thank you for a lifetime of musical excellence, and proving that musical perfection and sophistication can also be successful and popular!
I love Earth,Wind, and Fire.Maurice White has been a inspiration to me from EWF first album.Maurice sings with so much soul, confidence, and love in all songs.Maurice gives you everything from his heart when he sang.I’ve always wonted to see EWF but it hasn’t happened.Maurice White I miss you so.
In the 80’s, as a keyboard accompanist for the Choir Witness, in Phoenix Az., the group was so very blessed to not only meet Maurice and Phillip but our gospel group was chosen to back EWF on We got sing back up vocals on “Touch the World”. A great honor indeed.
Maurice was an icon for me. I went to see EW&F multiple times. Maurice stepped on the stage kalimba in hand and you knew you were going to be taken to a different level. He was the essence of music. There is no way his genius could be tempered. He wrote some of the most incredible songs ever. EW&F became a group that was the best especially during the 70’s. My exposure to them was when the group was fully developed. Many people saw EW&F as a pop band and I want to say go back and listen to Zanzibar or Power or Mom or Evil or Africano. There was nothing but pure genius in his music. Although Maurice is gone, it would be great to see the rest of them together because that was EW&F. Larry Dunn, Al McKay and the rest of them made the group. Maurice and I have something in common, Parkinson’s. He has inspired me in so many ways. I cried the day he died because a little of me died with him. Maurice White -Rest In Peace.
Hello, can someone please help me. Before Maurice passed, I seem to remember reading something, somewhere, to the effect that he was writing a book about his life and the story of how he formed the BEST BAND in the world. Whatever become of that idea? Did this die with him, or what? Let me say, I did buy, and read Phillip Bailey’s book “Shinning Star” which was well written, and really interesting, but Maurice was a true genius in every sense of the word.
Maurice is my role model and my inspiration. His music and his mission have impacted me beyond measure, and his autobiography changed my life. He showed that a man can conduct himself with quiet dignity and still be an overcomer and an achiever. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Maurice as a musician, as a businessman, and as a person who made a conscious decision to lift up people, no matter their background, race, or social status. His autobiography was an incredible gift to anyone who has read it, and I am eternally thankful that he was able to complete it. It turned me on to positive thinking, having a definite purpose in life, and believing that I can achieve anything if I tap into the power that the Creator has given each and every one of us. I love you, my brother Maurice.
Lots of love, love, love for Maurice White. Ever since I discovered Maurice White and E, W, and Fire when I was a 15 yr old girl in Colorado Springs, Colorado, I have followed everything they’ve done. I feel like I am E, W, and F’s number I fan! They have brought joy to my life for all these years – and I am 62 years old. My boyfriend and I are currently reading Maurice’s book, “My Life With Earth, WInd and Fire.” We are enjoying it immensly, particularly the parts where Maurice explains the background of some of the E, W and F songs that were written (I hope to walk down the aisle with this man to E,W and F’s “Side by Side”). I don’t really have sufficient words to describe the impact that Maurice’s determination, vision, and music have had on my life. It chokes me up to even write about it. I saw him and E,W and F in concert twice. Rest in Peace, Maurice. You are sorely missed!
I absolutely love the music of Earth, Wind and Fire. Maurice was an amazingly visionary musician and songwriter. They are a source of so many joyful memories. Blessings to all the remaining band members and their loved one…
Wow i’m so glad to be able to leave a comment! i just miss Mr. Maurice White i say that with the up most respect i think one of the greatest voices in the world stage of music, the music was like an entity it had movement spirit if you will, one of the greatest bands ever, and i may be wrong i would have like to have seen more celebration of his life and passing. i want to thank the family for the tribute i saw on you tube i cried myself very nice program i wish i could have met him and talked with him that to me was a deep brother and the lyrics always built me up when i was down, as i used to write i extend my love and EWF FOREVER! peace!!
My spiritual Guide through he Music. The Voice I would hear when it is quiet or no one else is listening. He was a compass that I would compare mine too in order to stay the course. Not a moment of my life was ever lived without Maurice and the Music being a part of it. Head to the Sky! Rest easy Maurice.
As a teen, I was a huge EWF fan (still am and know every lyric!). I was often depressed and would stay my room all day, listening to EWF. The lyrics to those songs led by Maurice White got me through many a depressed day. One in particular remains my go to during difficult times – “Don’t let the world change your mind…” Thank you so much for your perpetual inspiration in my life.
Hello, my grandson is a drummer for a up and coming music group “the disciples” in Tallahassee , Florida. In the month September 2019, the are preforming a concert in honor of Earth, Wind and Fire. I would to get a recording of you thanking them that can be shown by media, thank you. God bless
Since my teenage times (40 years ago!) I’ve been an Earth Wind & Fire fan, trying to play the bass like Verdine – and to sing like Maurice! I’m constantly listening and playing and singing! You are such an inspiration!
Angeles truly do live amongst us. As was our brother Maurice White! He was a god amongst men and much like the goddess equivalent of himself Mrs. Minnie Riperton they were the living personification of love on earth. Not carnal love of men but spiritual love that surpassed all human understanding. There will never be a greater love for all as this was. Heaven allowed these two Angeles two exist here with us for a time. To teach us ALL ABOUT LOVE if we would only take the time to listen! They had to leave this world and return to forever. God rest the spirits of these two. But the spiritual message they leave will last for all time!!!
I was literally born and raised with Earth, Wind & Fire. One of the best bands of all time of any genre. The fact the group’s music is so relevant a half century later, speaks to Maurice’s genius and span of influence over generations within all walks of life. My high school quote was from Fantasy, “Every man has a place, in his heart there’s a space and the world cant erase his fantasies”… So few words but its meaning encompasses every being on this planet and spans the test of time. That one line encompasses equality, love and dreams that every person has and should be respected for no matter who you are.
1981 I was 6 years old then, I used to see you guys on TV wearing those unusually sparkling fancy clothes and my mom loves your music so much. 38 years later I’m still listening.
Thank you for the music.
I first heard of Earth , Wind & Fire when I was 11 years old. I listened to them over the years and was a fan, but the beauty, the genius of Maurice White I wasn’t old enough to appreciate the until I got older. I had all of the albums on vinyl which are still with me. However I bought the Columbia Master’s Collection. Fast forward to this year when I became very ill and on top of the illness a myriad of emotions bringing me down every hour of every day. I started listening to EW&F every day. I really listened to the words and was blown away by the genius of Maurice White. The music went to my heart and spirit. It took about three months, but the music of EW&F healed me spiritually. It gave me hope and a will to get better. I am forever thankful to have had the honor of experiencing the music and all its wonderful, complex, simplicity. Maurice White and EW&F were and are the finest gift the Creator who loves us gave us.
EWF – BROTHA MAURICE was Definitely a Man put here on EARTH to make the WIND Blow placing FIRE in People’s SOUL and SPIRIT. It’s difficult to name one song, however at 57 yrs old I CAN’T Help but sing Keep Your Head to the Sky, EVERY TIME I drop my head when life tries to bring me down.
GOD BLESS MAURICE & FAMILY
I mainly grew up listening to Earth Wind & Fire. At the early age of 17 I met Larry Dunn who actually taught me a little something on Keyboards. It was Earth Wind & Fire who encouraged me to pursue a professional career in the Music Entertainment Business. Thanks to all of the members for bring the world great music.
Une immense tristesse, mais la vie continue
Encore merci à Maurice et depuis 1973, que j’écoute E.W.F

Maurice was my hero & inspiration since I was a little girl. What a magnificent spirit he was and remains to be. I can’t believe it will be 3 years since he went to a higher place. Fly high, music master <3
Simply the best, 2 years later …
One of the GREAT MAN on earth, Gone With the Wind and brings the fire in my Soul and life, a lot of thanks.
Will the group make it to Michigan this year
Hello, can someone please help me.
EWF, anointed by God. Glad I experienced them in my life time.
I have been a diehard fan since the 70’s! Keep on groovin’ guys! Love y’all
Angeles truly do live amongst us.
Love you forever Reece. Thank you for the beautiful music and spirit.
the groove of Serpentine Fire ain’t like no other! YEAAAAH
